Audience Feedback

I have used different forms of social networking to gain audience feedback on my work and to gain a "following" for my publication, the two sites that I have used are Facebook and Twitter. I have created a Facebook page where a questionaire can be found to help gain feedback on my newspaper, here are the questions that can be found on the page: Do you like the masthead? Could you tell it was a local newspaper? Did the front story interest you and why? Do the adverts at the bottom look real? Is the price reasonable? Does the inside story interest you? What do you think of the weather report on the inside page? Did the poster make you want to buy the newspaper? Would you want to visit the website after looking at the newspaper? I have used Facebook again to create a fan page: 'The Offical Portsmouth Post Page' I have also creared an Official Twitter Page for the Portsmouth Post too.

Starting The Evaluation

I have now begin to start my evaluation for my local newspaper, for my evaluation I have used the website Prezi. This is a more interesting way of creating a presentation and I think I can properly evaluate my work on this program. I have begun with question 1 and am about half way through that question. To get some audience feedback for my work I have already set up a Twitter page for my newspaper and am going to set 2 Facebook pages, the first a group where I can get feedback about all the work I have done and the other a fan page similar to the Twitter page. I need to create this and also set up my newspaper website so it is live on the Intranet.

Newspaper Website Second Page

After completing the website home page, I have now completed the second page of my website. This page was focused onthe news, both local and national, where I added news stories, a search box to look for local pages and I also featured an advertisement on this page as well. I now need to publish my website so it can be viewed on the Intranet and I need to begin my coursework evaluation.

Website Advertisement

For my website I have created an advertisement for a 'Half Price Sale' at a local home store, this advert will probably feature on the second of my two website pages as I think the advert is more suited to that particular page.

Newspaper Website

I feel that I have now completed the first page of my website for my newspaper, I have added a weather report, an advertisement which shows my newspaper poster in a tube station and I have put all the links and terms at the bottom of the page. I know need to start the second page of the website which will be probably be focused on the general news and I also need to begin my evaluation of everything I have done for this coursework. The home page has a hyperlink to the 'News' page where there are more news stories.

My website should have been made live on the Intranet, using the Cyberduck program, but the program doesn't seem to be working so I have screen shots of both of my website pages and here is the URL, if it had worked:

Marketing Campaign

To make my advertising campaign for my local newspaper interesting I have created an advert where my poster is featured on the side of the tube. This will show a lot more people my newspaper and gives a more dynamic way of showing my newspaper to the public, this advertisement will also be featured on my website home page.

Carrying On With Newspaper Website

I have been continuing on with the website for my newspaper and have some changes to it from last time. I have added more stories to the front page to go with the ones I added previously. I also have added a box talking about what it is in the current edition of the newspaper which is featured on the front page as well. I will need to carry on with adding advertisements and a weather report to my front page, I also need to add more typical website conventions to the page as well.

Newspaper Website 2nd Draft

I have continued on with my website for my newspaper and have made some additions to the page. I have put the date up the top which will match the date that is on my newspaper front cover. I have also added colour to the search box and search button, which are typically featured on websites. I have also added a 'News' section and 'Sport' section where the viewer can click on them and read the featured story. I now need to add more stories to the page, put my newspaper front cover on the page and add some advertisements to the site.

I have now started my website on iWeb for my newspaper, where I have added the masthead that I have used throughout my newspaper. I have also added the typical conventions of a website such as a search engine and a banner with the links to the other pages of the website. I now need to carry on with my website by adding content and advertisements to the page and I also need to think about the second page for the website.

Newspaper Poster 3rd Draft

I have nearly completed my newspaper Poster for my local newspaper, from last time I have changed the position of the image of my newspaper front cover. I have also added more text to the poster which will help advertise the paper. All that I may need to do now is possibly add a background colour as at the moment the colour of the background is white. I was thinking about having a blue background but am not 100% sure yet.

2nd Draft of Newspaper Poster

I have carried on creating my poster which will advertise my local newspaper, 'The Portsmouth Post', I have changed some of the fonts from the 1st draft but I am not completely sure if I will stick with one particular font that I have used. I have also chose a theme for my poster, carrying on with the 'Local stories' advert that I used for my inside page where readers could give the newspaper a local story that they have found. I was thinking of elaborating this by playing on the idea of the old army posters which said 'Your Country Needs You', and I will be changing it to 'Your Local Newspaper Needs You'. Again I am not completely sure if I will carry this idea through but I have put the idea down on my poster to see what the outcome might be.

I have now started to create my poster for my local newspaper after looking at other examples of posters I feel that I have a clear idea about what to do. I have so far added my newspaper masthead, which has been used throughout my work, my newspaper front cover and I have also added a couple of cover lines, one of which I used on the inside page of my newspaper. This will give the viewer a sense of familiarity throughout all the aspects of my local newspaper. Next I will need to add a couple more cover lines to my poster and also add something to fill the gap in the centre of the page.

Examples of Newspaper Posters

After the front cover and first page of my local newspaper I need to begin to think about is the poster formy newspaper. The poster that I am going to create will advertise my newspaper and will feature my newspaper front cover. Most newspaper posters link to a story or offer that is featured in that day's edition. Here are a couple of examples of posters from two national newspapers, The Sunday Mirror and The Sun.

Nearly Finished Newspaper First Page

I think I have near enough completed my newspaper first page, I think I am about 90% - 95% happy with it at the moment. The only section of the page that I am not totally convinced with is top left hand corner where there currently is a mini-masthead. It is the same masthead as the one used on the front page as I wanted to keep a familiar theme throughout my newspaper. I have put a sub-heading below the mini-masthead saying, 'Your Local Area. Your Local News.' this sums my newspaper as it is local and I want it to get the readers involved and make it feel like they are part of the paper not just living in the local area on which the paper writes about. I have made the colour of this bit of text blue and yellow as from past research that those two colours are often associated with Portsmouth. All I need to do now is do some possible minor tweaks and then I should be done with the first page.

Another Draft Of Newspaper First Page

I have completed another draft of my newspaper first page, the page is actually very close to completion with just a few minor tweaks that are needed to be done. Today I have added my advert to the page, extended the weather report to giving a forecast for the whole week and I have also near enough completed the article about the closure of the community centre. All that I will need to do now is just look over the page and see what can tweaked or improved to complete the page.

Weather Reports

One of the features for my newspaper first page is the weather report which from looking at other newspapers is regularly featured on this page of the paper. I looked at a couple of different weather reports in newspapers, first of all i looked at the Portsmouth News where they have a daily, detailed weather report which gives an overview of the weather forecast for the day of release and the rest of the week. I also looked at the weather report for The Express on their website. the report for The Express was similar to the report of the Portsmouth News which made me think about doing my weather report in a similar way as well. My weather report however will not as detailed as The Express as they are targeting a different audience and as I am creating a local newspaper which is focusing more on the local news.

For the first page of my newspaper I have created an advertisement that will feature in my newspaper. The advert that I have made links in with my newspaper as it asking people to let the newspaper know if have a local, newsworthy story. This will make the reader feel like they are a part of the paper themselves, which gives them a level of interactivity.

Today I have been working on my local newspaper first page, having already taken the pictures which for the first page story I first of all needed to decide which image I would use. I chose to use this picture.

I think that this image would be most suited to my page as when I placed it on to the page, to me it looked right and fitted in well. I have also started to write my story to go with the image about the local community centre closing down. I also near enough finished the local weather report which from looking at other local newspapers is usually featured in the first page of their newspapers. Next week I need to aim to finish my page by completing the main story, creating a possible advert and filling in the spaces on the page. After this I need to think about the newspaper's website and a poster advertising my local newspaper.

After finishing my local newspaper front cover I am now moving on to the first page of my newspaper. I have already taken the pictures for the first page story which is based on a local community centre closing down. I now need to think about the story itself and how I am going to write it. I also need to think about what advertisements I am going to put on this page of my newspaper, and how much of the page is going to be taken up with adverts. Like I did for the front cover, I have made a mock up of the first page showing how I am going to lay it out when I start to properly design it.

Over The Xmas Break

Over the Christmas holidays I have been thinking up what I am going to do for my local newspaper and specifically the newspaper's first page. I already have images for this page so now I need to think about adverts, the article and other items to feature on this page. I am probably going to feature some form of weather forcast on the first page as when looking at other newspaper pages they seem to have the weather featured somewhere on the first page. After this I will begin to think about my newspapers website and poster.
